You bring me gifts
from far off places
where I have never traveled.
You sing me songs
in languages
I do not understand.
All these things
shine a light
upon my crapulence.
I am a sinner,
and you are my sin.
To take
from which I never gave,
to reap
from which
I have never sewn,
to reside
in the comforts
of another’s labor
is a gift,
or a curse.
Either way,
a debt I cannot repay.
You say
that I will never ow you anything,
but I
owe you
my entire world.
