Mental Health Monday – 05.29.23

It doesn’t have to be pretty. In fact, most of the time, it’s not. Growth is painful. Trauma, wounds, disease, distemper – these are messy. Chaotic.

We are works in progress. We’re newborns, still covered in amniotic fluid. We’re masterpieces that are still just smears of paint, half-formed sketches, and nonsense words. We might never be perfected or completed, but as human beings, we’re not an end state – we’re a journey.

We’re weary and road worn. We’re the sweat and soreness after hard labor. We’re the disheveled mess of our lovemaking. We’re the inexplicable strangeness of dreams.

The images that we see on screens and in pictures are a lie. The people, places, and things are all staged. It’s not real life – it’s a hoax, designed to warp your sense of what is real, so that you are more readily suggestible to influence and manipulation.

Life is messy. Life is dirty. Life is hard. We are made better by our struggles, and I, for one, have never looked at a musician, or an actor, or a model on TV and thought to myself, “Wow. That person is really working hard to be a better human being.”

It doesn’t matter who we are or what we look like. If we’re striving to be better people, then we might make the world better around us. We might be trash, but we’re all gonna be better trash.

Our current situation does not determine our outcome.

Have a great week.

Be safe.
Be well.

Much Love!
