A Carnival Fire

Out of the ordinary;

only the strange

and wonderful remain.

Is this person in front of me

my reflection,

my enemy,

my same?

Putting it all on the table, now.

The days of being able to pick and choose

are long gone,

blown away in the days of rage,

activism and apathy.

They tried to sow Armageddon.

Don’t think

that just because they failed,

that they’re going to forsake

the wisdom

they sold their souls for.

So, this is the way it is.

Laughter and smiles,

all turned to screams,

like a carnival fire.

I guess,

this is what we get

for treating this reality

like an amusement park.

It’s all fun and games

until someone invades eastern Europe.
