Treading Water

Watching you swim,

barley treading water.

Certainly not going anywhere,

but doing a decent job

of not dying.

                                                                                                                                          .

Waded too far in,

up to your neck,

before the ground so swiftly

falls off into the abyss;

and here you are,

struggling.

                                                                                                                                          .

Passed into a new dimension.

Didn’t ask,

just pretended

that I knew what I was,

and that everything

was going to be

okay.

                                                                                                                                          .

Things always become clear,

right before they disappear

forever,

and they’re gone.

                                                                                                                                          .

We waited for this to change

for so long,

then when it came,

we were distracted,

never acted,

and now we are

waiting again.

                                                                                                                                          .

Lost and treading water.

Certainly not going anywhere,

but doing a decent job

of not dying.

                                                                                                                                          .

                                                                                                                                          .
