We tell ourselves
stories,
to make up for our fears.
Fill in the gaps,
in our minds,
with things that we hear.
Invent reasons,
and meanings,
and people,
when the facts are unclear.
And we’ll cling to
these lies,
in the face of the truth,
when it finally appears.
We’ll do anything
to save our comfort zones.
We’ll say anything
to make it seem
like we’re in control,
but it’s already all over,
don’t you know?
We’re keen to cling
to illusions,
in the confusion
of a world
we can’t ignore.
