The Critic

Tell me another one.

You’ve got it all figured out,

I see.

So certain

and confident,

opinions formed,

position achieved.

Opposed and righteous

in this time of unease,

but I’m watching you

slide away

every time

that you speak.

Tell me another one.

You’ve got the truth

in the palm of your hand.

You’ve seen the pattern,

broken it down,

and now you’ve got a plan.

There is just one thing

you don’t understand;

we’ve seen your kind

come and go with time,

again, and again.

Tell me another one;

about how you’ve changed.

About how this new you

is so improved;

this new diet you’re on

is all the rage.

You’ve heard a podcast

and it explained

the secrets of life,

but deep down inside,

you’re still the same.

Tell me another one;

about how it’s time

to stop talking,

and start listening.

Stop wasting our lives.

We’re only here

in the darkness to shine

for a little while,

so, let’s get it right.

Tell me another one;

one just like this.

Simple truths

are never complex.

One more time,

before I go to bed,

Tell me another one

as good as the last.
