The bottom swallowed me

and spit me out.

Not an aperitif,

I had gone sour.

I used to numb

your lips.

I used to paralyze

your wits,

now I’m just a shadow.

One blink of an eye,

one last flash of light;

burning your desire,

hot enough to

cook in my shadow.

I know you’ve long since

lost the taste,

but I am stronger, now.

You won’t feel your face,

you won’t feel anything.

Black is white

these days.

I cannot lie,

I’ve been playing with the shades.

You can see by how the light comes in,

I’ve got you standing

in my shadow.
