Ammonia

Sometimes,

you’ve got to draw deep,

from down in your

less often visited places,

where the light shines seldom

and the neon signs sing.

Stained streets,

thick with ammonia

and human loss.

Places avoided by the downtrodden,

the villainous,

the malfeasant;

somewhere that only

the truly desperate,

or the truly innocent

call home.

Rat-infested havens,

abandoned by all

who would save,

or would persecute.

Sometimes,

you’ve got to look here,

in the lowest place,

amongst the worst kind,

because here,

you might find

a savior.
