Run

I’ve made peace

with the end of the world.

I’ve talked with the Man in the Sky.

He told me,

“Don’t worry, I’m coming.”

so I’m waiting

to watch Him walk by.

He’s coming home,

gonna clean His castle

by burning that bitch

to the floor.

When the land’s been razed,

all those little critters

won’t run through the thicket

no more.

Run through the thicket,

run, run through the thicket,

run through the thicket no more.

Gotta have balls

when the axe handle falls

and splits the others,

who aren’t really here at all.

Lost in the suckers,

who can you call?

All you motherfuckers,

how low can you crawl?

Sneaking,

but there’s creaking

in the old screen door;

they won’t run through the thicket no more.

Run through the thicket,

run, run through the thicket,

run through the thicket no more.

Never gonna get

all the blood from my hands.

I cling to my sins,

like a fool in the wild.

I walk like a man,

but I laugh like a child.

Broke both feet,

still got a few miles.

Lost a few teeth,

you should see me smile.

When the End Times come,

boy, I’m going in style,

but the rest gon’ run,

’cause they know what’s in store;

they ain’t gonna run through the thicket no more.

Run through the thicket,

run, run through the thicket,

run through the thicket

no more.
