The Big Parade

Knock, knock.

Who’s there?

Your time is up.

I hope you have your debts paid.

Hug and kiss your loved ones good-bye.

It’s your turn,

now turn away.

Everyone gets one kick at the can.

One breath, one look, one glance

at the big parade.

One chance to be great.

Born – Live – Die

Got a date with the grave.

We all see the dark,

but we can choose to see the light.

I think we’re doin’ alright.

Sure, we’ve fallen

and missed

our calling

and this

is appalling

at best,

at the worst

we exist.

It’s a really bad joke

it’s a poke and a twist.

A knife in the back,

it’s the will to resist.

3, 2, 1

Ready or not, here I come.

The wolf takes the lamb

and the man takes the son.

The dark takes the sky,

now what have we done?

Our truth is a lie

and our love is a gun.

My trust is in you,

just to watch you become

something else…

… anything else.

Before they start piling the dirt on me,

a better self.

No chance in hell.

I just want to see you be you for me,

before we check out.

Close your eyes,

feel the breath in your lungs,

feel the touch on your skin

and the taste on your tongue.

Close your eyes,

feel the beat of your heart;

you’re not dead yet,

that’s a place to start.
