Today I will let my mind
sit in its grey matter cell
and pine for better days
that never were.
Today I will alleviate
the strain of expectation
from my shoulders
and just exist.
I will let the storm outside
be the mirror to my mind
and in my head
I’ll be safe and warm,
or dark and cold,
or whatever.
Today there will be no succor,
no remorse, or guilt,
but today I can hone that
well practiced detachment,
for the day
when such a thing
will be needful.
That will be a bad day.
So, today I will let my mind
sit inside its grey matter cell
and pine for better days
that never were.
